SDR Character Preview #4: Zelda

This is Zelda. She's the princess of Hyrule. Or was it queen? Well, I suppose that depends on what time period we're looking at! Even then, it's very debatable among Hyrule's historians...

While Zelda is a good deal faster in SD Remix, opponents will tend to overwhelm her. She has stronger offensive and defensive tools to help her even the playing field however...

This Meteor Smash looks powerful!

Light a flame from beneath to send your opponents to the stars!

In Melee, Zelda's low mobility made her especially struggle against dash-dancing. Careless opponents should watch out for her Standard Aerial move's landing animation...

Sparks envelope her as she lands! You can combo after this!

Of course, if you anticipate Zelda will use this move, you can simply shield it and grab her out of it. Just be mindful of your spacing.

 Zelda's Forward and Up Smash attacks have also been fine-tuned to be nearly impossible to escape mid-attack. Explore situations to utilize them for maximum effect!

Resistance is futile, Captain Falcon!

Zelda's Special moves have received some minor changes too.

<Side Special Move: Din's Fire>

Din's Fire sends opponents horizontally, allowing sharp shooters to KO opponents from even a great distance away. It's a bit difficult to control though.

 Hold B and take aim with the Control Stick; release B to detonate it!

That looked like it hurt...

If the opponent gets sent toward you instead of away, you can follow-up with a Lightning Kick or a Up Aerial attack to finish the job. The move's recovery is quite long, so be careful of when and where you use it.

You no longer go into a helpless free fall state from using Din's Fire in the air, so you can alter your recovery trajectory using the move. Helpful huh?

<Up Special Move: Farore's Wind>

Farore's Wind has a follow-up fire attack at the end of the animation.

Be one with the wind!

Oops! Watch your step, sir!

SDR Character Preview #3: Donkey Kong

The king of the jungle returns with some much-needed firepower! Fans will go bananas as they power through enemies.

Donkey Kong is another character with relatively minor changes. His defensive game is more
consistent due to the increase in shield size, and he's more threatening now that his moves are meatier than before...

His Forward Strong Attack is in red. Pretty big, huh?

His Down Strong Attack isn't bad either!

Such a brute! This might be considered indecent exposure...

Even his grab seems a good bit larger!

<Standard Special Move: Giant Punch>

Donkey Kong's signature move is his Giant Punch. Charge it completely and you can store the attack. Unleash it at the right moment to pulverize your opponents.

While in Melee you were sent into a helpless free fall state for executing the move, in SD Remix...

Donkey Kong! You completely missed!

Well, I guess this is okay...

Although his changes don't appear too exciting, players will find Donkey Kong truer to his design and maybe even reap a few noteworthy victories too!

SDR Character Preview #2: Kirby

Dreamland's infamous deviant and glutton is well-known for his ability to copy his opponent's powers and use it against them. He's also rather popular among women...or so I hear.

 The pink and round blob is as cheerful as ever!

So what has changed with Kirby in SD Remix? While many of the differences seem minor at first, this iteration of Kirby is not to be taken lightly!

He slides more!

His hops are shorter!

He's even stronger!

Veteran players will notice the differences immediately and will be sure to appreciate the extra boost in attack speed and mobility. Untrained eyes should stay weary lest Kirby makes you his next snack!
The Down Smash Attack always sends horizontally now.

Rumor has it these Back Throws "chain" on certain opponents...

Speaking of throws - all of Kirby's throw moves are now inescapable. Use them to your advantage!

Fox seems awfully calm about this!

<Standard Special Move: Swallow>

Kirby's Swallow allows you to copy the Standard Special Move of your opponents, including the changes made to those moves in SD Remix!

Too bad! Kirby's Giant Punch missed! Is this the end?!

Don't worry Kirby! You'll get him yet!

Moves copied by Kirby can no longer be removed by chance from hitting him: opponents need to either KO Kirby or wait until he taunts. Although if he taunts near the edge of the stage, he might be too quick to punish...
